ROUND7

U9

Coldstream V Bayswater – Sunday 22nd May

So in Round 7 we had the long drive out to Coldstream for a game of U9's footy.

We started off very well with young Matty Elvin kicking two of the 3 goals 3 behinds we kicked at quarter time.

Troy Maggs, Matt Elvin and Kyal Robinson were very good in the middle to start the game.

The second quarter we continued our winning way although we were very wasteful in front of goals kicking 2 goals 5 behinds. Bodhan McAuliffe steadied the ship though by kicking two goals in the second quarter

After about three weeks of persistent “Can I play full forward, Can I play full forward”, from Kyal Robinson I decided to give him a run at full forward.

He sent a message to the coach by kicking three goals in the third quarter alone. A very good effort. The team kicked 5 goals 1 behind in the third.

Overall we finished with a convincing 77 point win. The score was Bayswater – 11.13.79 to Coldstream 0.2.2

Best: Kyal Robinson, Bodhan McAuliffe, Kyle Bechaz, Matthew Elvin, Troy Maggs

Goals: Kyal Robinson 3, Bodhan McAuliffe 2, Matthew Elvin 2, Kobe Hoffman 1, Jordan Irish 1, Kyle Bechaz 1

U10

Due to low numbers we decided not to enter this years lightning premiership and instead I encouraged some of our second year players to have a run in the U11's who were playing at home.

Six players steped up - Max, Colby, Jayaran, Blaize, Lachlan S and Riley - and they all played about a third of the game and aquited themselves well, Max especially as he played up forward in the second half and managed to kick 2 of the teams 6 goals for the day - well done Max let's see if you can carry your form into next weeks game!!

Well done to all the boys today.

Bayswater v Lilydale

Today we were at home against Lilydale, who had been travelling well with 3 wins and a draw from their first 6 games. We were lucky to have some of the U10’s playing up, with the club deciding to pass on the Lightening Premiership. Without them we would have only had 1 on the bench, so they allowed us to give some players a rest during the game (which they don’t get too often). I started them on the bench to get a feel for the game, but some of them were on in the first quarter. Hopefully they enjoyed their time on the ground, and the experience will help them back in the U10’s next week.

It was an overcast morning with rain threatening, and a bit of a breeze blowing to the railway end. Ben won the toss and we kicked with the slight breeze, getting a couple of goals on the board and keeping Lilydale scoreless. After being a bit loose last week, it was great to see the backline playing tight and players setting up the ‘wall’ a kick behind the play. Ben was giving us drive out of the middle, with Brad working hard in and under. The forwards were also battling hard, with Corey providing a presence and Sascha using his body and long kicks.

Lilydale were inaccurate during the second quarter, missing some goals from relatively close range. We went in at half time 4 points in front, with the scoring end in the third quarter. We put on 3 goals to establish a bit of a break at ¾ time, but the forward line was getting a bit crowded and we could have scored more. Tom had a great quarter at Centre Half Back, with Ben, Riley and Azza getting plenty of the ball around the ground. It was also great to see some real teamwork, with players providing shepherds and sharing the ball in the forward line. We managed to kick the only goal to the Bayswater Road end in the last quarter, while Lilydale scored 2 goals with the wind increasing and the rain coming down.

It was excellent to see the boys bounce back after their first loss, and we need to work hard over the next couple of weeks to maintain our momentum away from home.

Bayswater 6.5 – 41 def Lilydale 3.7 – 25

Goals: Max (U10) 2, Sean 2, Riley, Jaycob

Best Players: Ben, Riley, Tom, Azza, Sean

UNDER 12 MATCH REPORT ROUND 7 2011

Today we tackled bottom of the ladder Donvale in a should win game.

Kicking against the wind in the first Donvale kicked 3 goals and we managed to kick 2 ourselves.

The second quarter saw us make the most of our opportunities and we kept Donvale scoreless and went into half time leading by 13 points.

The third quarter had Donvale turn the tables on us and we were kept scoreless and trailed at the three quarter time break by a measly 3 points with the scoring end to come in the last. All players had run hard for the first three quarters but another 15 minute effort was needed to come away with the win and by all accounts every player gave his all and we had a handy albeit narrow lead of 5 points which we hung on to for dear life. Unfortunately Donvale weren’t to be outdone today and with a late surge forward they took a good mark at centre half forward and with only a handful of seconds left on the clock they again marked at full forward. The siren sounded as Donvale lined up and kicked truly for their first win of the season and for us to go down by a solitary point.

Boys, don’t be disheartened as we did put in a great effort today. The wins will come but it does take hard work and it is worth working hard for.

Congratulations to Kane on his 50th game today! Well done!

Goals: Cody 2, Sanden, Matt, Sam, and Bailey

Best Players: Matt, Andrew, Sanden, Kane, Sam and Cody

Round 7 v Mitcham

Q1: We took a little while to get on top early in the game and to Mitchams credit they took on the game but fortunately our back line stood firm to keep on top and run the ball out to our advantage. It wasn’t until the last 10 minutes of the quarter we started to open up the game with great team work.

Bayswater 6.9.45 - Mitcham 0.0

Q2: Again it was not as easy as the scores reflect as Mitcham kept running the ball forward but again our backline kept winning the ball to start some great passages of play.

Bayswater 10.10.70 - Mitcham 0.0

Q3: We finally broke the oppositions back and we played the best team football we have all year. It was great to see that we didn’t  get greedy or play selfish football and we stuck to our game plan. Our centre players got on top and the work they did to protect each other to win the ball was fantastic.

Bayswater 16.14.110 - Mitcham 1.2.8

Q4: We finished the game off in good style adding another 5 goals to have a great team effort win.

Bayswater 21.18.144 defeated Mitcham 2.4.16
