Bayswater Vs Waverley Blues White

Bayswater played at home on Sunday and numbers were strong with 25 players having a good run throughout the day.

The first quarter was a reasonable struggle to move the ball and score as there were 20 players per team which caused a lot of congestion. Our boys were very solid in sticking to their positions for the most part.

First quarter resulted in two scoring shots each with Waverley kicking two points and Bayswater kicking 1.1 thanks to the great left foot snap by Cameron Philpotts.

After halftime both teams changed back to 18 players and the game started to open up. The kids started to gain some momentum with executing handballs to open players and moving the ball long though kicking.

One of the best plays of the day was with Renan, Corey and Troy executing multiple handballs and then shepherding for each other resulting in a strong mark by Bodhan who kicked a goal.

A special mentions also to Connor, Nick T and Seb for their individual performances.

The game finished with Bayswater 6-6-42 to Waverley 3-4-22.

Goals: Cameron Philpotts 2, Bodhan McAuliffe 1, Corey Preston 1, Renan Falahey 1, Kobe Hoffman 1

Best: Bodhan McAuliffe, Connor Sticht, Cameron Philpotts, Renan Falahey, Seb Conway, Nick Tellus

U10

This week the U10's travelled to Waverley Reserve to play Waverley Blues on a day that looked like the boys might be playing their first game in the rain.

Due to the size of the oval two games were being played at the same time, unfortunately this meant no lines were marked on the ground which didn't help some of our players still learning positions!!

We had a new player join up at training on Thursday - welcome to the team Lachlan Hubben!! - and were hoping to start with 14 but due to mothers day Blaize was unable to make it.

Waverley only had 16 players and put the same number as us onto the ground to even it up a little, this worked in our favour as we scored the first two goals and should have had four except for a little inaccurate kicking.

The second quarter proved to be mostly Waverley who managed to kick all the goals while we only managed a few points, despite this we managed some good passages of play and got the ball into our forwards regularly, the only problem was the hight advantage of Waverley to our small forwards.

After halftime I moved players around in positions to give everyone a run on the ball and it was pleasing to see all players hold position on the ground and not follow the pack of Waverley players chasing kicks and trying to kick goals.

A great team effort by all and though we tired after halftime the efforts of the first half were pleasing.

Lets work on some running and kicking drills at training on Friday night and see if we can improve our running game.

The Bayswater U11’s ventured to St Simons in Rowville for Round 5, which was Ben White’s 50th Game.

It was an overcast morning, but there was no rain for the first 3 quarters so the kicking and marking skills were good. It is a big ground, and the boys struggled in the first quarter to get it into our forward line. So much of the play was in St Simons half that when we did start to move it forward, there were no Bayswater players to kick to. St Simons kicked 1 goal, and we were lucky they didn’t score more with a couple of close behinds.

We started the second quarter in better style, with a couple of unlucky ‘posters’ followed by a goal off the ground by Kyle. Corey was presenting well at Full Forward, and we were running well from half back using handball and long kicks. This was emphasised when Sean ran forward from half back to get a goal, and Jack also scored to see us go in at half time with a 2 goal lead. Our backline did a great job keeping St Simons scoreless in the second quarter.

The third quarter was a tight tussle, with Drew sneaking a goal to put us a bit further in front. There were some decisions not going our way, but the boys persisted and kept St Simons scoreless again. It was great to see the boys starting to shepherd for each other, and there were some great tackles and smothers during the game. Ben and Riley both got plenty of the ball, continually driving it into the forward line. Jack was playing a great game, and full credit goes to all the boys who rotated through the backline. On such a big ground, they were not always involved in the play, but when the ball came down they worked together to get it heading back our way. A couple of times St Simons looked like they would score, only to be stopped by some desperate play or great teamwork.

We slowed a bit in the last quarter, scoring 1 point to St Simons 1 goal. It had started to drizzle rain, making the ball slippery and the skills of some tired boys started to fall away. However, with no players on the bench and everyone playing a full game on such a big ground, it was a great effort.

Bayswater 4.6 – 30 def St Simons 2.2 – 14

Goals: Kyle, Sean, Jack, Andrew

Best Players: Ben, Riley, Jack, Sean, Corey, Brad

UNDER 12 MATCH REPORT ROUND 5 2011

We hosted the ladder leaders Montrose today and focus was on their 6-foot tall player who we presumed would be their ruck.

The first quarter had Montrose out of the blocks early but our defence was again standing up to pressure and the quarter saw Montrose only kick 2 goals.

The second quarter was by far our best on the day with everyone trying hard and we went into half time 4 goals or so down.

Unfortunately they had a great 3rd quarter while we were left chasing their tails and they did hurt us on the scoreboard by kicking another 6 to put the contest out of Bayswater’s reach. Some movements around the field and a challenge set.

The boys played a lot better in the final quarter but we couldn’t manage to put any score on the board.

I hope a lesson can be learnt today on the simple aspects of footy. Montrose ran to the contests where we loped along, Montrose were prepared to run and many times Bayswater were out numbered 3 or 4 to 1, Montrose players were prepared to get in and under and get the hard ball. I know it is a tough ask every week to run the whole 60 minutes and always being short doesn’t help either but we have shown that when we do put in we can match it with the best of them. Lets stick together, train hard and play harder!

Bayswater 0.0.0 def by Montrose 11.6.72

Best Players: Andrew, Kane, Jamie, Luke, Sam and Matt

Round 5 v Rowville

Q1: In very wet conditions and playing top of the ladder side we had to be switched on to play good percentage football. We got ourselves pumped up for the start of the game and we came out with great attack on the footy and the opposition. We had control of the ball for the bulk of the quarter but it was very difficult to penetrate through the 12 to 14 Rowville players who flooded our forward line.

Bayswater 0.2.2 - Rowville 0.1.1

Q2: It was a matter of persistence and working hard to score in very wet and slippery conditions. We kept attacking hard and finally we got the rewards kicking 2 goals.

Bayswater 2.3.15 - Rowville 0.4.4

Q3: After dominating the first half it was quite a shock to us all when Rowville kicked 2 quick goals in the first 5 minutes. We got back on track and our on ballers worked hard to take control of the centre clearances. We got 1 goal back later in the term.

Bayswater 3.4.22 - Rowville 2.5.17

Q4: We had to keep working hard and try not to let the ball slip through our hands and keep our bodies behind the ball. Rowville got a lucky goal and it was now just a matter of hanging on and working as a team to run the ball wide to defend with 4 minutes left on the clock. We missed our chance to seal the game but we hung on for a gutsy win.

Bayswater 3.6.24 defeated Rowville 3.5.23
