After our first training session we didn't expect to be playing this weekend as the fixture listed us as having a bye - but due to a late change by the EFL we travelled to Rowville with just our 10 players.

We were lucky enough to be able to get some Rowville players to help us out filling in numbers and due to the half size ground we played on each team had 15 players on the ground.

I started all the Rowville players in our forward line thinking they would all want to kick a goal for Bayswater but they seemed more interested in helping their Rowville teammates score!!

Our more experienced players in Max Lennox and Colby Roberts helped their new teammates this season settle in well and got them into the game - our little pocket dynamo Flynn Graper would have to be the shortest U10 player in the EFL but he attacks the ball well and never stopped running all game.

To say Rowville knew how to play the ground is an understatement - I was genuinely amazed at their players 30m kicks for goal - obviously we have a lot to do as a team.

Work commitments will keep me away for the next two weeks boys but Bernie will take you for training so work hard and good luck next week.

We played Boronia at Miller Park today and came up against an extremely ‘hyped up’ group of players and coaching staff! Starting with and only having 14 players is and will be a mammoth task this season and seeing today’s first outing gave me an insight on how to develop these boys.

The first quarter saw Boronia take a handy 5-goal lead but the next three quarters I believe belong to Bayswater. Unfortunately we didn’t kick a goal but we played with determination and character. Although Boronia sung their song with gusto it was a performance not to be proud of. They might have had the numbers on the field and the bench but the one thing they didn’t have was heart and this showed whenever there was a hard ball to get.

Bayswater Vs Boronia

After a short preseason everyone was keen to play in the local Derby. With facebook chats up and running to the lead up of the game we were very keen to get off to a good start.

Q1: The first 10 minutes both sides were feeling each other out, tackling hard and a lot of stoppages there was nothing in it having both kicked 1 goal. We started to get our running game going in the second half of the quarter and teamed up well to add 2 more goals.

Bayswater 3.2.20 - Boronia 1.1.7

Q2: We started well and continued where we finished off in the first quarter having most of the play for the full 20 minutes. Our attack on the opposition and our run was fantastic. We kicked 4 goals and kept Boronia scoreless.

Bayswater 7.6.48 - Boronia 1.1.7

Q3: The break did not help us as we seemed to take our foot of the petal and we were second to the ball. It looked like Boronia had 5 extra players out there as they ran in waves and started to kick longer in to their forward line kicking 4 goals to our 1

Bayswater 8.6.54 - Boronia 5.4.34

Q4: To the guys credit they with stood the challenge and played unselfish footy. There was some great individual play but it was our team work that got us over the line kicking 4 goals to 2.

Bayswater 12.10.82 defeated Boronia 7.6.48
