Upper Ferntree Gully V Bayswater

Today we played Upper Ferntree Gully at their home ground to start the season off.

In the first quarter we had the wind and used it well kicking 3 goals. In the second quarter the players had to hold Upper Gully against the wind and everyone did a fantastic job holding them to one goal.

This was our first game were the players could tackle and what a great job they did well done guys!!

The third quarter saw both sides having a tight hard battle kicking one goal each, In the last we kicked a goal and went away to a good win.

U/11s – Bayswater V Glen Waverly Hawks at Bayswater.

First game of the season and for the U/11s their first game of competitive football where they keep score and have a ladder so the boys were very keen.

For the boys that played last season (under 10s) it was good to have a full side, compared to 14 last year, although due to a party we only had 16.

Thanks also to Luke who played last year in the higher age group with his mates to come down and play for us and hopefully he will stay for the season.

Game started well with our captain for the day Sam winning the toss and following good advice from Jesse chose to kick into the wind.

Boys played a great first quarter and by quarter time we were in front by a goal which was fantastic considering we were kicking into a 3 to 4 goal wind.

The instructions in the second quarter were to kick long and direct into the forward line which the boys did very well and at half time we were in front by approximately 4 goals.

Third quarter was much like the first where the back line was fantastic and with the help of the on ballers we kept them to a goal and with the exception of young Daniel being injured it was a great quarter.

Going into the last quarter we thought we had a good enough lead even though we were down to 16 players and to our surprise they played their 2 loose men in their forward line which was strange considering we had the wind and we were up by about 5 goals. The boys continued to play good team football and in the end won by about 45 points.

Best Players

Team effort

UNDER 12 MATCH REPORT

First of all I would like to welcome our team for 2010 including all the new players and parents.

We came up against a good team today and our players responded well by keeping pressure on all day - we should be proud of our kids for the huge effort they put in.

The game was very close all day but Bayswater was too strong for the Glen Waverley Hawks running out winners by a couple of goals, what a great start to the year for us - WELL DONE TEAM!!

Final score Bayswater 6-8-44 defeated Glen Waverley Hawks 4-7-31

Goals to Ryan White - 2, Brody Thynne - 1, Dillon Gervasoni - 1, Tom Neve - 1, Rhiley Davis - 1

Round 1 Bayswater v Boronia

The much anticipated first game for the new season. With just over half the team completing the pre-season training that went from the end of January, this was going to be an interesting contest with Boronia coming down from B division last year.

The boys had a practice match 2 weeks earlier against St Simons who are a B grade team and played fantastic, with some of our new players showing off there skills.

The First quarter the boys started very slowly and looked like they were still in School Holiday mode, this allowed Boronia to score 4 goals 3 points to our sole point for the quarter. Boronia’s tall players, and there were lots of them really made it tough for match ups.

The Second quarter was again dominated by Boronia on their home ground with them kicking 8goals 3 points with the strong wind.

The Third quarter the boys came out with a lot more intent and managed to win the ball a lot more often. This kept the ball in our forward 50 for most of the quarter but due to pressure from Boronia we only managed 1 goal, 5 points to Boronia’s 2 goals, 3 points

The Fourth quarter the pressure from us had dropped considerably, Boronia took full advantage of this, scoring another 3 goals, 5 points to our 1 goal, 1 point.

Final Score

Bayswater 2-7-19 def by Boronia 17-14-116

Goal Kickers: Connor 1, Jade 1

UNDER 15 MATCH REPORT

Bayswater V Eastern Lions

The season opener was met with great anticipation although not all of the team had made it to the preseason training track we were encouraged that a few new guys had joined the team and a few of our past players finally decided to pull the boots on for season 2010.
Eastern lions got on the score board early but with great play from new player Jackson Zaloumis we kept in the game although a couple of goals down.
The regular midfield players Braden & Peter kept finding the ball and driving it forward with our backline led by Josh Guy & Longy tried to rebound the ball that moved quickly into our backline.
Our players fought out the match well but Eastern Lions were too strong and held on to win
 11 .17 .83 to our 5 .7 .37
Encouraging signs throughout the match with some great team play and linking form the backline to the forward line to get some well earned scores on the board.
Goals :-  Adam 1 , Jake  1 , Beau 1, Braden 1 , Rappa 1

ST. SIMONS V BAYSWATER

Today we ventured out to Liberty Reserve in Rowville to again tackle St. Simons. We had previously played them in a practice match only two weeks earlier and had beaten them convincingly. A hard week on the track with some good training efforts had everyone feeling confident, perhaps a little too confident! All the boys arrived at the ground wearing their new ‘Baysie’ jackets and pants and we looked like a team who had come to play!

The First quarter was hard as we kicked into the wind and St. Simons had a lot more run and seemed prepared for the contest and by the first change led us by 4 goals straight to a solitary behind! We knew it wasn’t over and having the wind in the Second was a great help. We started getting centre clearances and running in groups and at Half time led St. Simons by a goal.

We came out of the rooms ready for the Second half knowing that our fitness should prevail and we should be able to run over them. It was an even quarter but we managed to kick 3 goals to their 1 and knew that we could come home hard with the breeze in the last. St. Simons never gave up and managed to outscore us in the last but a good performance by ‘Baysie’ saw us over line in a great contest.

St. Simons 7.5.47 def by Bayswater 9.6.60

Best: Al White, Grubby, Batterz, Big Jake, Macca, Jakey Paul

Goals: Dale 3, Grubby 2, Cannon 2, Rappa 1 and Liam 1
