Coldstream v Bayswater

For the first time this year our guys had to make sure they picked up there man, with a fast moving coldstream putting the ball foward and building a wall so everytime we got the ball out they were there kicking it back in. At quarter time we talked about manning up and for the onballers not to go to deep and the game started to turn our way with our guys running hard at the ball and manning up well, we kicked 2 goals and looked a better side in the last half the game was played in our foward half were we kicked 3 goals 7 behinds to 1 behind and had another great win.

CONGRATULATIONS GUYS

Knox/Lysterfied V Bayswater

Under 11s ventured to Knox/Lysterfield for round 6 that was always going to be a big game for the boys.

The day started well with young Thomas withdrawing due to a sore neck and James withdrawing due to his grandfather being quite ill, so unfortunately we had 18 players and no bench.

The 1st quarter was a tough one due them winning the toss and us kicking up hill which took a little while for the boys to adjust, but once they did they applied their usual pressure on the other team due to hard tackles and a hardness at the ball and at ¼ time we were about 7 points in front and although this didn’t seem much reward for all the hard work, we still won the ¼.

The second quarter saw a very different Bayswater and we attacked the whole quarter and if we did not blaze away at the goals the game could have been over at half time but instead we kicked 2 goals 1 for the quarter and went in at half time leading 3.2. 20 to 2 points. Although the score board did not reflect it we played very well in the second quarter.

The second half was going to be a real test as we only had 16 fit players with Anthony and Finn suffering leg injuries that meant they had to stay in the forward line with little impact due to their restrictive injuries.

The 3rd quarter was struggle and the boys worked very hard  to keep them to 1 goal but unfortunately we did not trouble the scoreboard and although we had the lead at ¾ time we were just hoping we could hang on as the boys were very tired and we had no replacements or any chance to give them a rest.

As Mick and myself have done for all games this year we continue to rotate all players so they all get a chance to play forward, back and on the ball and today was no different, so we mixed up the side for the final quarter.

Knox/Lysterfield never gave in and continually attacked even though they were kicking up hill, but to our boys credit they also never gave in and despite not scoring in the second half all the boys dug deep and we were able to hang on for a 3 point win which now leaves us 6 – 0.

Best players – Team effort under the circumstances.

Bayswater v Knox Black

Today we played Knox at home, with Knox being 4 and 1 and sitting 4th on the ladder we knew it was going to be a tough game.

First quarter the Team came out ready to play from the first bounce. The midfielders dominated the centre clearances and delivered the ball to our forward line where we kicked 4 straight goals to Knox’s 2 goals 1 point.

Second quarter Knox lifted their intensity and we dropped off a bit, allowing them to score 3 goals 1 point to our 3 points. This put us 5 points down at the centre break.

I told the team that they ALL needed to put in and apply more pressure for the whole quarter.

Third quarter, all the team lifted and were rewarded with 4 goals 2 points to Knox’s 2 points.

Fourth quarter the Team went on with the game and played some really good footy. We  kicked another 3 goals to Knox’s 2 goal 1 point to come away with another great win.

Well done Team.

UNDER 15 MATCH REPORT

Over the past few weeks our starts have been slow so we needed to get on the scoreboard early for a change. That’s what we did jumping out of the blacks and getting the ball down to our open forward line which gave us 5 goals in the first quarter. Both the Full backline and half backline were steady and rebounded the ball up the ground and hassled Wantirna when taking shots at goal. With Josh Guy marking anything in reach.

The second quarter was reasonable even with both teams scoring and getting plenty of the ball the mid field with Sam Drummond , Longy,  Braden and Jackson Z were creating the wall and getting it down to our forwards.  Jackson Bragg and Howdy were taking marks for us and delivering to our leads. Young Daniel was put up forward with instructions to rove to the big guys and that resulted in a goal to Daniel as well as Aaron snapping a couple of goals during the day.

In 3rd  quarter they challenged us with quick possessions out of the centre and getting down to their Centre Half forward who kicked a few goals. We made a change and put Jackson Z onto him which took him out of the game. The half backline was great Pete, Kane , Josh Guy and Jackson Z stuck with them like glue then ran off them when we had the ball. Shayne and Beau were hitting the targets each time from the full backline and playing well.

It was tense at the start of the 4th quarter we needed to score early and control the footy to keep us in front , Josh Kazar , Aaron and Mitchell were going well and or forwards with space around them started to create more goals An injured Adam snagged another goal taking him to 4 goals and Braden was on song with his 4th for the day. Sam D was tackled and knocked out and taken from the field. That spurred us on to hold them out and have our first win this season.

FERNTREE GULLY V BAYSWATER

Today we travelled to Ferntree Gully Reserve to play the bottom team. We were told pre-game not to get ahead of ourselves and we must make it happen. We took an early 6-goal lead at quarter time with both our midfield and backline playing solidly. By halftime we led 13 goals to 2. We knew that we must keep the momentum going and kicked 8 goals to 1 in the third. The last again had players rotating and even Batterz helped himself to a goal! We ended up winning by a large margin but pleasing was the fact the goals were shared and accuracy was good.

We now face the ladder leader and benchmark of the competition next week on home soil. We must work hard on the track this week and hit the ground full of running and bring all aspects we have been working hard on into our game.

Remember we have UNFINISHED BUSINESS!!!
