UPPER FERTREE GULLY vs BAYSWATER
The under 11s ventured to Upper Ferntree Gully on Sunday to take on a team that last season thought it would be a good idea to play 18 against 14 to ensure they had a win even though we don’t score in the under 10s.
As per usual we had exactly 18 again so with no bench the boys were once again going to have work very hard with no rest.
Jake was captain for the day and I think for the 7th time this year we won the toss and Jake kicked with a big wind advantage. We changed the side a little bit to try something different and it seemed to wake the boys up as for the first time in 4 weeks we attacked the ball very hard and moved the ball around as planned and if it young Bailey had have kicked straight then the game would have been over at ¼ time as it was we were up 3 goals 5 to nothing and Bailey kicked all 5 points.
In the second ¼ with the exception of 2 or 3 players the forward line became the backline and the backline became the forward line and it worked very well with Jamie (Fullback) kicking his 3rd goal for the year. All the boys worked very hard and although keeping the opposition to a point we still managed to kick a couple of goals of our own and at half time we had a comfortable lead. We do need to buy Sandon a listening device as a game does not go by without Sandon asking which way are we going and where am I playing.
The 3rd ¼ was similar to the first with the Baysie boys relentless at every contest and for the first time in a few weeks did not go kick chasing, they tried to centre the ball at every opportunity and looked to move the ball quickly and at ¾ time we led by about 8 goals.
It was unfortunate in the last ¼ quarter that one of the opposition had to be carried off with what looked like a serious shoulder injury, so we wish him all the best with his recovery. Kicking into a strong breeze the boys continue to attack and when the ball did go into their forward line the backline ran it out in numbers.
Another good win for the under 11s.

Bayswater v Lilydale
Today we played Lilydale at home. With Lilydale sitting 4th on the ladder and us at 6th, we knew it was going to be a tough game.
First quarter the whole team came out ready to play from the first bounce. The team applied some really good pressure on a much taller opposition. We managed to score 3 goals 1 point to Lilydale’s 2 goals 2 points.
Second quarter the team played well again but lost our structure in the forward line. Crowding our forward line meant we were only able to kick 5 points to Lilydale’s 2 goals 3 points. This had us 5 points down at the centre break.
Third quarter the whole team lifted their intensity and produced their best quarter of footy by far for the game. Kicking 4 goals 3 points to Lilydale’s 1 goal. This had us back in front.
Fourth quarter I told the team that we really needed to keep the pressure and intensity up for the whole last quarter. They did that beautifully kicking another 3 goals 1 point to Lilydale’s 3 goals 2 points, giving us another fantastic win against some quality opposition. Well done TEAM.
Final Score

ST. SIMONS V BAYSWATER
“SUNDAY BLOCKBUSTER”
Today we ventured to Liberty Reserve for the third time this season. We knew pre-game it would be a tough match and if we used our run and carry we would make it a tough day for St. Simons! We started off slow although we trailed by one point at quarter time.
We started to work harder in the second quarter and although we still weren’t playing our best football held a two-goal advantage at half time. The third quarter was fairly even with us outscoring St. Simons by a solitary point.
The last quarter was a classic with St. Simons throwing everything at our boys and us repelling and defending hard. Although they managed to claw back to within a goal we held firm and scraped a hard fought, well deserved win by 16 points!
Boys I must say this win shows our true character that when the going gets ‘we’ get going! A slow start, laziness and poor attitude to start with had us battling where perhaps if we had started ready and willing we wouldn’t have had the added pressure going into the last quarter!
Remember we have UNFINISHED BUSINESS!!!
